Leather is skin, dead skin. Like your own it gets dirty and dries out in the sun and heat. Mechanics suffer from ingrained dirt, which dries and cracks their fingers; this also happens to leather. Dirt must not be allowed to become ingrained and "cut" into the creases.
Soap and water MUST NOT be used to clean leather as it will shrink and harden it. Greasy, waxy oils, pastes and balsams will attract dust and dirt which adheres to the finish and is then driven into the leather by your bottom!

Apply conditioner evenly working into leather untill fully absorbed, for old neglected leather apply further thin coats of conditioner, treat leather periodically to maintain the leathers durability and patina, the fine smell of leather will become permanent after the leather has been adequately treated.
